Cassava is a root crop grown throughout the tropics for food. Cassava products are also used in the manufacture of paper, textiles, adhesives and alcohol. Annual world production of cassava tops 158 billion tons. Brazil, Thailand, Nigeria, Zaire (Congo) and Indonesia are top producers, while countries in South America, Africa and Asia are major importers.
