Maize

Maize is widely grown for human and animal food in many parts of the world, and used industrially to make oil, starch, sweeteners, adhesives, paint, fuel, cosmetics and construction materials. Annual world production of maize in 2004 was just over 700 million tons, with the USA, China, Brazil and Mexico the top producers, and Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico and Egypt the top importers.
